Society NOC: types, format and how to issue one in minutes

A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the housing society is one of the most common requests a secretary receives. A member needs it for a passport, a home loan, selling the flat or letting it out — and usually needs it urgently.
The NOCs societies issue most often
- Passport — confirms the member's residence at the address.
- Police verification — for tenants, domestic staff or a member's own verification.
- Sale or transfer of flat — confirms the society has no objection to the transfer and states the dues position.
- Bank or housing loan — required by the lender before sanctioning a loan against the flat.
- Leave and licence (rent) — confirms the society has no objection to the flat being let out.
- Electricity meter, piped gas, renovation work — for utility connections and internal works.
What a society NOC should contain
- The society's letterhead: name, registration number, address and contact details.
- The date and a reference number.
- The member's name and the flat number, wing and building.
- The purpose of the NOC — written for the authority that will read it.
- A statement on dues where relevant (especially for sale and loan NOCs).
- Signature of the Secretary or Chairman and the society's stamp.
Why NOCs take so long — and how to fix it
Usually because someone has to find the format, type it, check the dues, print it and get it signed. The fix is a ready format for each purpose, filled in automatically, with the dues check built in.
Issuing NOCs with HousingMS
With HousingMS NOC certificates the secretary picks the owner, chooses the purpose, reviews the outstanding dues and issues the certificate on the society letterhead — logo, registration number and address included. When an authority needs specific wording, upload your own PDF or DOCX format instead. The owner is emailed and can download the NOC any time from the resident app.
