Parking management in housing societies: allotment, stickers and disputes

HousingMS Team · 28 Sept 2026 · 2 min read

Register of flats, owners and vehicles in a housing society

Ask any society secretary about their biggest headache and parking will be near the top. There are more cars than slots, visitors park anywhere, and nobody remembers who was allotted what three years ago.

Start with a register of slots

List every parking slot with:

  • Slot number and location (stilt, basement, open)
  • Type — car or two-wheeler
  • Whether it is allotted, and to which flat

Register every vehicle

Each flat should register its vehicles — registration number, type and the flat it belongs to. Tenants' vehicles count too.

Use stickers

A numbered parking sticker for every registered vehicle lets the guard spot outsiders immediately and makes towing or warnings fair.

Keep the allotment history

Most disputes are about history: "this slot was given to us in 2019". Record every allotment and release with dates, so the answer is always on file.

Agree the rules — and the charges

  • How are slots allotted when there are fewer slots than cars?
  • Is there a charge for a second car?
  • Where may visitors park, and for how long?

Put the rules to the general body, publish them as a notice, and apply them consistently. If you charge for parking, add it as a billing head so it appears on the monthly bill.

Parking charges can be added as a head in maintenance billing, and parking rules can be sent to every resident as a notice through the resident app.
